General and Legal Translation Service Directory - page 8

Are you looking for a general or legal translation service? Use this directory as a starting point to find and compare options.

Important: We are not affiliated with the companies in this directory and cannot vouch for the quality of their work.

Phoenix Translations

Tel.:+1 877-452-1348
Website:phoenixtranslations.com

Texas-based Phoenix Translations offers technical, medical, scientific, and legal translation service, as well as translations in other fields.

Their special service offerings include free patent retrieval and free notarized certifications for all translations.

They also offer "rush service" at no extra cost, although what they mean by rush service is not specified on their website. We are perplexed by their advertised "standard turnaround time" of 5-7 working days, which makes no mention of translation volume. 5-7 working days is exceedingly slow for 100 words and exceedingly fast for 100 pages.

The Phoenix Translations website describes a rigorous quality assurance process for translations which involves editing and proofreading by subject-area specialists who are natives of the translation's target language.

Their website quotes a number of anonymous, but enthusiastic, testimonials.

Their published client list includes 3M, Johnson & Johnson, Kodak, and Pfizer, among others.

Do you need a specialist legal translation service?

Are you translating a legal document? You very likely will need a specialist legal translation service. Ask yourself:

  • How important is it to get this translation exactly right?
  • Can a non-specialist properly understand this document?
  • Will a non-specialist be able to use the proper legal terminology in the translation?

SDL

Tel.: +1 781 464 6000
Website: sdl.com

SDL is a world leader in language technologies. In 2005, they acquired another language technology leader, Trados, giving them a powerful hold on the market.

SDL technologies integrate automation throughout the translation workflow process. SDL claims that their translation memory software is used by over 80% of the translation supply chain.

In addition to technology, SDL offers a full range of language services, including translation, localization, multilingual testing, and what they call "Intelligent Machine Translation," which consists of machine translation with human post-editing.

SDL is owner of an online translation service, Click2Translate.com, which provides instant online quotes and timelines for document translations. Click2translate.com lets clients choose among three service levels:

  1. Standard translation
  2. Translation with editing
  3. Specialist translation with editing.

Clicking through their pricing tool, we found it user-friendly. The prices we saw seemed reasonable to us. Price-wise, SDL appears to be on the higher end of the spectrum, but the three service levels give clients a full range of options according to their needs and budgets.

Client references listed on the Click2Translate.com website include Philips, PepsiCo, American Express, the U.S. Department of the Interior, among others.
